Posted By Richard Hearn – ICT Subject Leader at Moorlands Junior School
1: All ICT subject leaders are welcome to visit Moorlands Junior School between 3.30pm and 5.00pm on Tuesday 6th November for an informal meeting. The focus of the meeting will be two-fold: firstly to discuss any issues to do with leading ICT in a primary setting, sharing ideas and solutions to problems or issues raised and secondly to share examples of good ideas / software / resources / childrens’ work from your school. So Rob, come and tell us about SurveyMonkey.
I will provide coffee and homemade cakes. Please drop in as you can, there is no commitment to attend regularly but I would like to explore the possibility of holding these meetings once per new term, possibly moving from school to school so we can see good practice in situ. I’d also like to get the kids involved, sharing what they do in school with you lot.
Let me know if you will be coming along so I can make enough cakes.
Cheers,
Richard Hearn

2:
I am trying to update my school documentation with regard to ICT, specifically policies, AUPs, in fact anything. In a spirit of co-operation I wonder if anyone has anything they’d like to share (i.e. that I can steal). If you can help out, and perhaps we can share via this blog, please let me know.
Thanks
Richard Hearn

Yesterday, 26 teachers attended the first of this year’s Primary ICT Subject Leader meetings at the Brislington CLC.
The focus of the day was WEB 2.0 and the changing nature of education in light of the way technology is affecting working practices and allowing access to a wealth of resources and information.
The feedback from the day was fantastic – everyone commenting on how useful they found the day. As usual, there was a lot to take in, but in the true spirit of the day, the support material from this blog will allow participants to follow up those areas they feel most interested in.
The venue also proved to be a hit with people really enjoying the surroundings and having access to the computers. The Chill Out Room was very popular – allowing space to discuss key issues as well as take a break from the computers!
Please keep checking the meeting’s support PAGE. New items have been added already. In particular more support material for Scratch.
We’ll also post some advice on creating a custom image header for your WordPress blog. Many people wanted to create a fancy header after being inspired by ours!
Results of the Making the News session can be seen HERE.

Do you remember Pacman, Spaceinvaders, Pong?! These games can be played again at this website.

At the ICT Subject leaders event in October we are going to explore a free piece of software called Scratch which will allow KS2 children to use their knowledge of logo and control to create a simple game. Who would have thought all those years ago when we were playing the Atari that we would be creating those type of games with our Yr 5/6 children. This will be a great resource for those children who are able and can take control to the next level. It is web based so children can continue their work from home. Have a look at some of the projects on the site. Don’t forget to book your place for the subject leaders event we have limited places available.
